Theme and general information

When you first launch Dreamzone, you invariably think of NetEnt’s iconic Starburst slot. The symbols kind of remind us of that one, though Dreamzone manages to be distinct and certainly not a copy.

Interestingly, whilst we are clearly in space, indicated by the distant stars in the background, we are also in some sort of tunnel. Is that the dreamzone? Is it a wormhole. We don’t know. But on every spin, we move along this tunnel, which makes for an interesting visual effect.

The soundtrack is surprisingly lively and disco-inspired, which seems misplaced in a slot that has dreamlike qualities.

Whilst overall simple in design, it’s still nicely done, though not as sophisticated as we have seen in other ELK Studios slots.

Anyhow, the low value symbols are colourful gems in simple shapes, whilst the high values are matching in colour but are more complicated in shape. The red crystal is by far the most valuable, paying out 100x our stake for a cluster of 11 or more of it. The other high value symbols pay either 20x or 40x our stake for such a win.

Interestingly, clusters of only 3 symbols already pay out a win, which is a major advantage, though the grid isn’t exactly massive anyway.

Dream Features and Bonus Drops

We can’t quite decide whether this is an easy slot to play or if it’s a confusing one. There seems to be something happening all the time. That’s due to the fact that every win in this cluster pay slot leads to the collection of a Dream feature. They show up as little whirls on the left-hand side and are used on non-winning spins.

So, you keep collecting them as you win and use them when you don’t. No wonder something is always going on.

The Dream features that can randomly be triggered on a non-winning spin are:

• Wilds – Up to 5 wilds are randomly added to the grid
• Symbol Upgrade – Any of the low value symbols on the reels will be turned into its corresponding high value symbol randomly
• Symbol Explode – Up to four symbols are removed from the grid
• Symbol Scatter – A randomly chosen symbol pays as a scatter wherever it is on the reels and is subsequently removed

This all helps in clearing the grid completely, which is what we want as it triggers the Bonus Drops. We get 3 free drops and start with a 2x multiplier. The Dream features are still doing their thing and if we manage to clear the grid within those free drops, we get 3 more of them and the multiplier doubles. This can happen up to 8 times as long as we manage to clear the grid. At the end, a 512x multiplier awaits, which is very good indeed.

Verdict: A dreamy slot with massive multiplier potential that this doesn’t quite get there

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) is a solid 96%. The slot gets a medium to high volatility but an excellent hit rate of over 27%.

Disco music aside, this slot has a zen-like feel to it. The movement on the grid and our way down the tunnel into the depth of the galaxy is almost hypnotising. And the gameplay is also somewhat on the slow side. There’s not much action to be found here, even though something is always going on.

The game comes with some solid returns and we had no difficulty triggering the Bonus Drops twice within a hundred spins. That seems to happen on a regular basis, though wins didn’t approach what you might expect with a maximum 512x multiplier.

In fact, the maximum potential of this game is apparently only 2,500x our stake, which is not a lot given that multiplier. We do get a solid enough grid slot here, but it’s not for those seeking action and high payouts.
