Diablo Reels Slot Review

Diablo Reels is a classic slot from ELK Studios with 3 reels and 5 paylines. Released in August 2020, this game can be played at online casinos such as Mr Green, LeoVegas or Guts.

Theme and general information

Diablo Reels is the 7th in ELK Studios’ classic slot line-up and potentially the best-looking of the bunch. Whilst the reel symbols themselves give a classic feel, the background looks awesome with flowers scattered, a horned skull with a mariachi hat, a smoking cigar and a lighter as well as a bottle of liquor or even poison (same difference, really).

The scene is set, and we could almost believe that we are about to make a deal with the devil himself on this Dia de los Muertos. It’s surprisingly atmospheric for a classic slot. The music is inspired by Latin American tunes, though when the reels get spinning, we also get the usual bells and whistles from classic slot machines.

Classic symbols on the reels include lemons, bells, 7s, diamonds, horseshoes, bar symbols, melons and chilis. The diamonds are the most valuable items, paying 50x our stake for 3 on a payline. Wilds are worth the same and the 7s pay out 20x our stake for a win.

Most importantly, whilst we get a classic 3×3 reel setup with 5 paylines, above the main set of reels is a secondary set of reels that remain dark as long as it is not active thanks to a feature.

Bets can be placed from 0.20 to 100.00 per spin.

Nudging Wilds and Wild Stack Re-spins

There is a wild in play and if it comes equipped with an arrow, it will nudge upwards to cover the above reel set as well. We now get re-spins until the wild leaves the upper reel set (essentially dropping down on each spin). Here we may also get a 2x or 5x multiplier.

When we get a full stack of wilds on a reel, the Wild Stack Re-spins are triggered. We get a re-spin on both sets of reels. And one reel is completely stacked with wilds. We now have 10 paylines and stacked wilds become sticky if we happen to land both types of wilds.

Free spins with two sets of reels

The scatters shows us the devil himself and three of his kind will award 10 free spins. Now both sets of reels are spinning, once again giving us 10 paylines. The wilds will continue to do there thing and it is possible to retrigger the free spins.

Also, note that the upper reel set doesn’t hold low value symbols, which makes it easier and more lucrative to land wins here.

Verdict: A solid addition to the classic series which can be fun to play

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of Diablo Reels is 96.3%, which is well above average, though this is a volatile slot with a rating of 8/10 and the hit rate doesn’t even crack 19%.

For the most part, Diablo Reels is a great addition to the classic series with good features and it doesn’t get boring as long as the wilds show up. Beyond that, the gameplay always gets a little one-sided in classic slots.

Still, the free spins break through the monotony as well and they are not too difficult to trigger. That said, the low potential might be a deal breaker for some as we only get a maximum of 2,500x our stake if we are extremely lucky. That’s not the best we’ve seen even in the classic series and might just sour things for some.
