1 Left Alive Slot Review
Released in January 2020, this game can be played at online casinos such as Casumo, Mr Green or LeoVegas.
Theme and general information
The Zombies are at it again. We’re almost surprised that this game wasn’t released in October already, but 4ThePlayer is such a new game studio that their first release with 9k Yeti came after October and thus their second release would have been too late anyway.
Whatever, zombie slots don’t have to be released just in October. They are a year-round fad and that means you can release them any time of the year.
Whilst 1 Left Alive is not the most sophisticated looking slot, it stands up on its own. The setting is at night. Some trees and empty houses are visible. And when the light flickers, the hordes of the undead can be seen in the foreground. Given the theme, the visuals are suitably creepy.
On the reels, we get some 9 to A playing card symbols, which are adorned with zombie apocalypse survival paraphernalia such as bullets, antibiotics, flashlights, scissors and a baseball bat wrapped in wire.
We also get high value symbols showing various zombies. The one who’s left alive is the gun toting woman on the wild symbol. She’s worth the most, paying 50x our stake for 5 of a kind. The female zombie is worth 20x our stake for such a win and the male zombie pays out 10x our stake. The zombie who is missing half is body and the horde are worth 5x and 3x our stake, respectively.
You can play this game from 0.10 to 10.00 per spin.
The Plus+Ways Engine
One interesting thing about this slot is the way in which it pays wins. It’s called the Plus+Ways or Ways+Plus engine. All symbols can land stacked (often stacked 2 symbols high). When a win is formed that includes one or more stacks, we get the symbol at the top of the stack paid out as one payline at the specified payout in the paytable.
For instance, a payline is formed from reel 1 to 3 that includes two stacks of the male zombie plus a wild. The top symbol on each reel forming the payline will be paid out in one win. Any additional symbol that is part of that stack and forming additional paylines since we get a standard 1,024 ways to win in this slot, will have the same value as the initial payline. That is, we don’t get additional paylines paid out, but each symbol in the stack that could potentially for a payline has the same value as the initial payline.
It does sound somewhat complicated, but it also adds significant value to each payout. Once you start playing, you’ll understand what we are talking about. Essentially it means that you are playing with 32,768 ways to win, if a whole screen of symbols would add to your win.
Free Spins with Bloody Wilds
The zombie hand is the scatter in this game, which lands on reels 2, 3 and 4. When that happens, we get 7 free spins. The scenery changes and our heroine is surrounded by the zombie horde. The situation looks dire. Before the free spins begin, we get to choose one of four mystery symbols that will reveal which zombie our survivor will fight.
Whenever that zombie lands on the reels during the free spins, it will now transform into a bloody wild, which is staying on the reels, moving down one position until it drops off again.
Three more scatters on the reels will retrigger the feature and add another 7 free spins. It’s possible to play up to 500 free spins this way.
Verdict: A surprisingly entertaining zombie slot with good potential
The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) of 1 Left Alive is 97%, which is very good indeed. The slot has a medium to high volatility and a decent hit rate. As long as you are not on a losing streak, you can see some decent wins here and there. It’s possible to win up to 5,200x your stake in a single spin.
In terms of execution and gameplay, 1 Left Alive delivers a solid performance. As far as zombie slots go, this one isn’t too bad, and the theme has been adapted nicely. We actually quite liked playing this game. It’s not super innovative or ridiculously exciting with massive payouts. It is entertaining, though. And with a few good wins here and there, you’ll probably like it too.
