Couple Accused of Stealing $300k from River City Casino after Discovering a Glitch

A couple from Jefferson County has been accused of stealing around $300k from River City Casino after discovering a technical glitch, according to charges that were filed this Friday. Both Daniel T Sheldon, 61, and Eileen R. Sheldon, 60, were charged with felony stealing.

According to the information provided by the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Gaming Division investigators, a system malfunction allowed the gamblers to download unearned winnings onto their reward cards. More precisely, the system would void the transaction when they tried to download credits from their cards, but funds were nonetheless transferred because of the glitch in the system.

The investigation has revealed that the system error was discovered by Eileen between October and December 2014. Once she was familiar with the glitch, she used it to make approximately 3,000 downloads whose total value was $582,353. A total of $216,892 she managed to redeem in cash and video surveillance captured her making these transactions.

Upon her arrest by investigators Eileen admitted cashing out money she never earned as well as she confirmed telling her husband Daniel about the glitch. Reportedly, her husband made 1,370 downloads between November and December, 2014. The cash he succeeded to obtain was $300,618. However, he managed to redeem only $101,182 in cash, topping the overall stolen amount in cash of more than $300k. Daniel was also captured on video surveillance completing the transactions.

The gambling couple wasn’t placed in custody and there still aren’t photos of them released by authorities. Bail was set for $100,000 each.
