Baccarat is a fun and very simple game that is played in casinos worldwide. The game is extremely popular in Asian culture and is often played in roped off areas of the casino where players will wager more on one hand than most people make in a year. From the outside the game might seem elitist and out of reach for a normal casino gambler, but it is not. The game is extremely easy to play and quite fun. The nice thing about playing baccarat online is that you don’t have to worry about any of these other factors creating an uncomfortable gaming environment. While there is no set of basic strategy rules to follow in baccarat like there is for blackjack, there are some fundamental things you can do to help improve you chances against the house.

Game Selection

Before you even sit down to play a game of baccarat you want to find the best table. The games with the best odds are the ones that have a low amount of decks and a low commission on a banker win. The ideal situation is a one deck game. This is nearly impossible to find at a real casino but is available at some online casinos. Try to avoid baccarat games with eight decks as these offer the worst odds for the player. You will also find commissions ranging from four to five percent. Your best chance for success will come from games with a four percent take.

Bet Selection

When playing baccarat you have the choice of three bets. You may bet on the bankers hand, the players hand or a tie. While you might be tempted to try each of the three bets, there is really only one bet you should make and that is on the banker’s hand. The bankers hand offers the best odds of all three bets. When betting on the banker you are limiting the house edge to a mere 1.01%. With the players hand the edge is 1.29% and if you choose the sucker bet of the group, the tie, you’ll be giving the house an advantage of nearly 16%.

What this means is that you simply should never bet on anything but the banker, even though there is a commission on the win, your odds are still better to bet on the banker. Keep in mind that while the exact odds of the house advantage will change with the amount of decks and the commission, they will always be relative in the order discussed above with the bet on the banker being the best choice.

Money Management and Discipline

The final component to our discussion on baccarat strategy is that of discipline and money management. These two factors are critical in the success of any gambler. You must realize that baccarat is ultimately a game of chance and the chance that it offers is about as close to a coin flip as you will find in a casino. With that in mind it is best to develop a bankroll strategy that is even, proportionate and within your spending limits. It is not a good idea to all of the sudden make large bets or take extreme chances on a game like baccarat. Decide on a betting amount and stick to it. For example, if the table minimum is twenty dollars come to the table with at least three to five hundred dollars and bet twenty dollars a hand. If you do things right you should lose very little or if luck is on your side you might come away with a nice win.
